2023 Toyota Prius Hybrid is equipped with the latest fifth generation hybrid system which combines two engine options, 2.0 liter & 1.8 liter. The Z and G models come with a 2.0 liter engine, and the X models get a 1.8 liter engine.
The 2.0 liter engine in the Prius HEV produces 112 kW of power or the equivalent of 152 PS, with 188 Nm of torque. The machine is known to be similar to the Innova Zenix in Indonesia. The 1.8 liter engine then produces 72 kW of power or the equivalent of 98 PS and 142 Nm of torque. Both models come with a choice of 2WD and E-Four drive systems.
Toyota estimates the 194 horsepower front-wheel drive model will achieve a combined 57 mpg, the best value achieved by the Prius. The completely redesigned cab features a more traditional approach to the driver’s compartment layout, with a larger screen and more features, including available heated rear seats.
A new 194-horsepower hybrid system was added, offering all-wheel drive; the extra power not only makes the Prius quicker than many hybrid competitors, but its newfound performance comes without sacrificing fuel economy. All-wheel-drive models make 196 horsepower thanks to an additional high-performance magnet in the rear motor. A 220-horsepower Prius Prime plug-in hybrid model is also available, but we’re testing that alone.
2023 Hybrid Prius Interior
The new design means the interior roofline is lowered by 2.0 inches, and front passengers also sit lower than before, allowing for a lower center of gravity. Base models come with a leatherette steering wheel, but upgrading to the XLE trim or higher unlocks heated front seats, more cup holders for rear passengers, and heated rear seats.

2023 Hybrid Prius Performance
It’s a 194bhp hybrid unit, powered by a 2.0-litre hybrid inline-four petrol engine carried over from the Corolla Cross hybrid crossover, and bolted to a continuously variable automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard. For the all-wheel-drive Prius, Toyota added a powerful permanent-magnet electric motor to the rear axle, bringing powertrain output to 196 horsepower, a 60 percent increase in power.
Last year’s Prius needed 10.5 seconds to sprint to 60 mph, according to our tests of the front-wheel-drive Limited model. Now it takes 7.1 seconds. That’s quicker than both the Camry Hybrid and Elantra Hybrid. Thanks to larger front and rear brakes, the new Prius also stopped from 70 mph earlier than the previous-generation model, stopping in just 171 feet compared to 194 feet in the previous test.
The EPA estimates that the front-wheel-drive Prius gets 57 mpg in the city and 56 mpg on the highway. Fuel economy has improved by 4 and 6 mpg compared to the previous generation. But compared to last year, the all-wheel-drive LE model gets a big jump in fuel economy, from 49 mpg to 54 mpg.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Both the base and top models have larger screens than their predecessors. A new 8.0-inch infotainment screen is standard on the LE and XLE, and Toyota adds a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen to the Limited (or as optional equipment on the XLE).
The system features “Hey Toyota” voice control and over-the-air updates to its infotainment system via the cloud. The larger screen comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, as well as available Wi-Fi.
In terms of equipment, the 2023 Prius Hybrid will be equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) safety system. In addition, Toyota vehicles have some new additions such as: B. Rear vehicle approach notification. It uses wave radar (sensors) to help warn drivers when other vehicles, objects or blind spots are approaching.
